When a car (or other vehicle) turns, the inner wheels are spinning at a different speed than the outer wheels. The front inner wheel is therefore at a different angle compared to the front outer wheel.

Ackermann steering geometry provides an approximate way to build a steering system. This works fine at low speed, but does not take into account the effects of dynamic forces.
